The hype is here. We have feasted and welcomed, and now it is time for the plastic to fly. I can not believe that this is my fourth year playing on for Montana Pillowfight. Some of us have played together for the entirety of my time here, some together even longer (coughsuperseniors). There have been times I have contemplated why I give so much time and energy to this sport. We all get burnt out. Honestly, commitment is a bitch, especially in a time as exhilarating, overwhelming, and magical as college. However, there is no other way I would have wanted to spend these past 4 years. Ultimate is more than just your typical team sport, the camaraderie among the players is something I have yet to witness or experience from other sports. As my mother acutely said watching a recent tournament, "You guys are a lively crowd." We can chug a disc and then chuck a disc. But throughout it all, people are genuine. I have especially found this to be true in the Northwest community, and even more so in the great state of Montana. The spirit of the game is alive and well here, thriving through shotguns for pull, support and respect for other teams, spirit games, housing 20+ stanky players, and spirit awards. Yes, we have played teams in the past that lack spirit. They suck and bum everyone out. Ultimate is about more than just playing well (look good is first, duh) and then doing a spirit circle at the end to make up for it... It's everything that happens along the way. I am just so thankful that I found a team that truly encompasses all that is amazing about ultimate. Big kudos to Kari, Rachael and Dory for getting this all started, and Kelton, Emma, Kyla, Jordan, Meghan and Sara for seeing the team through.
So if you are a new player and considering sticking with the sport, ask anyone who has played and they will tell you what's up. We typically travel 6+ hours to tournaments in a cramped car. We get dirty and get smelly. Sometimes it rains (A LOT), sometimes it snows. We lose toenails, get bruised and battered, and sometimes layout into other peoples mouths.... but ya know, it's all worth it. We also get to surround ourselves by amazing people and the best of friends.
PFIGHT LOVE ALWAYS AND FOREVERERERERERR.
So, here's too all the mems. :') It's going to be another fantastic year.
